Look What We Dreamed Up!

img_2823When my co-director Emma and I met at a networking meeting just over 5 years ago, little did we realise that we’d start a marketing consultancy business together soon after!

Then Emma had a very vivid dream about our future office space.

I was sceptical, but her dream was very specific and it stuck in my head.

Last year we revised the vision for our business to now include regular, affordable and practical marketing workshops for small business owners and for that we needed a training space.

But we didn’t want any old boring corporate meeting or hotel conference room, we wanted somewhere more inspirational.

Suddenly I knew exactly where it was and when we visited it we were so shocked to find it matched Emma’s dream to the exact detail!

But after twelve months of obstacles we had almost reached the point of giving up on it, our dream was not to be.

Then I remembered the power of Vision Boards. Have you ever made one?

Lots of very successful people swear by them including Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGeneres and our own British Interior Designer Kelly Hoppen.

It’s a way to visualise and create your ideal life and business. When you make a Vision Board, you become clear on what you want to be, do and have in your life.

Once you have that clarity, you choose images and words from magazines and stick them on a big board.

Kelly says “My vision board acts as a fantastically effective and inspiring visual reminder of my true desires, and that keeps me on track.”

It sounds quite simple (although having now trained as a Vision Board facilitator, I know that there is a process to make your Vision Board even more powerful.)

So why doesn’t everyone create Vision Boards?

Well in my experience as a marketing consultant, most of us never make the time and we also think it’s not ‘business-like’ enough.

We let our busy, distracted lives keep us, well, busy and distracted 🙂 and surely business strategy is all about spreadsheets and targets?

Well I put our new office on my Vision Board in September at a time when it felt like there was just no chance we could have it – the dream of having a beautiful and inspiring place to work from and share with other business owners that need marketing support was slipping through our fingers and we were frankly heartbroken about it.

But would you believe that last Thursday we signed the contract for the new space!

It’s perfect for training workshops and has fantastic views of the River Thames (the pic at the top of this post is the view from our desks!!) It truly is the relaxing and inspirational space we dreamt up and we are beyond excited about moving in!

And I can promise you, it’s no coincidence.

Seeing your board each day aligns your brain with the outcomes you most want to attract.

This Week’s Top Tip
So this week I want to encourage you to spend some time setting out your vision for 2017 on a big board using magazine cuttings and inspiring images of what you want to be, do and have in your business.

Then display it somewhere you can see it every day.

And if you really want to harness the power of Vision Boards then why not join us and a small group of like-minded business owners at our first Vision Board Workshop in our beautiful new riverside training space?
